Résumé

Evelyne Bertal has always been faithful to her husband, a dull Swiss judge interested only in his judicial responsabilities. But, on vacation in Italy, she meets Rémy, an attractive, unmarried French businessman. They dance together, flirt politely. Rémy is amused by Evelyne’s inexperienced and troubled reactions to his charm and, once back in Paris he tells Marion, his regular girl friend, all about her. Marion, sensing a potential rival, suggests that Rémy invite her to Paris. She knows him well and is convinced that once he has seduced Evelyne he will lose interest in her. Evelyne eventually accepts Rémy’s invitation to spend a day in Paris with him and, despite her scruples, they finally sleep together. After which, against all the odds, they realize that they are both deeply in love. Evelyne will take the night train back to Geneva as planned, but only to tell her husband she has decided to leave him. They dine together first, the minutes tick by, the lovers find it hard to separate and Evelyne misses her train. As we have already learned from a flash-forward early in the film, she will take a plane instead, and die when it crashes.
