The lost river Bièvre
Duration: 22 min – Black and white
Résumé
This film follows the course of the Bièvre from its source in its French hinterland to Paris, where it flows into the Seine. Along the way we learn about forgotten industrial activities and historical sites. Here is Jouy-en-Josac, where the famous Jouy fabrics were woven. Further on there are water mills, built long ago to irrigate crops. Then comes the old Bicêtre château, later turned into a hospital, then a mental home and finally, a prison. By the time the river reaches the Seine, creeping urbanization has done its worst. In Paris, the Biève is now built over.
