Résumé

French peasants living in the Camargue marshlands, the Alpine valleys and southern Provence cling to their traditional ways of life. All the Christian holy days are celebrated, but so are many pagan rites. Countless local customs mark births, marriages and deaths. The film ends with a Yuletide animal Mass in Provence.
