Résumé

Because he seduced the wife of an American gangster, Marc, a half-playboy, half-gigolo Frenchman, has a price on his head. The gangster’s hit men catch up with him in Nice, but he manages to escape and hides out in a Church shelter for the homeless where a wealthy American widow, Barbara Hill, and her cousin Melinda, regularly prepare and serve meals. Barbara likes Marc’s looks, and soon hires him to drive her car. Disguised in chauffeur’s uniform and dark glasses, he feels safe at last. But Barbara is only interested in his passport. She needs it for her lover, Vincent, who is wanted by the police for killing her husband. She has been hiding Vincent in her villa ever since the murder. But now, since Marc and Vincent look alike, Marc’s passport will enable Barbara’s lover to flee France. Meanwhile, Melinda has fallen in love with Marc, and concocts a plan to make Vincent think Barbara plans to abandon him. Furiously angry, he kills Barbara, just as the American hit-men locate and enter the villa. Seeing Vincent, they mistake him for Marc and shoot him dead. To the police, Marc will be the obvious suspect for these killings, but before they can arrest him, Melinda is only too happy to sequester him safely away in Vincent’s former hide-out.
