Résumé
In 1944, during the German occupation of France, Thérèse Dutheil, whose absent husband is a prisoner of war, tries to ignore the many difficulties of life in a defeated country. After an out-of-town trip to buy fresh food from local farmers, she accepts a lift back to Paris in the truck of an old friend. When the van breaks down she is very annoyed to discover that her friend works with the French resistance movement. Hidden in his truck are several allied airmen shot down over France and trying to escape back to England. She reluctantly agrees to hide one of them, Allen, a young American pilot, in her home for the night. But plans go wrong and finally Thérèse is obliged to accompany Allen, who speaks no French, all the way to the Spanish border. By the time they get there, having faced so many dangers together, they have fallen in love. But a resistance group is about to cross the border and Allan must go with them at once. There is hardly time to say goodbye. We wonder if Allan and Thérèse will ever see each other again.
